Exceptionally talented local artists also contributed to the ambiance of this impressive estate. The original owners, Carter & Shirley Boehm, bought the property in the early 1970’s; they built the lower home directly behind the natural pond that is there today.
After working with several contractors to build Shirley’s design of a “Country French” style upper home with no success, Carter finally decided to be the general contractor himself and hired all the subs to complete the job. It took them five years from start to finish in late 1986.
Carter’s landscape architect at the time recommended a retired fireman from LA, who was known for his water feature designs and in fact had designed & built the one at the Hyatt Regency in Maui, HI. They contacted him; he flew out for the weekend and ended up with the contract for the job. This was the only residential water feature he had ever done.
At the same time he was doing this work for the Boehm’s he was working on a multimillion dollar job in Hong Kong. All the boulders were molded in fiberglass and trucked up from Los Angeles, CA. They created 7 new molds for this job and after the boulders were put into place they were covered in concrete.
The man Carter credits with all the design of the winding staircase and quality craftsman style woodwork throughout the home was Ray Yunkins from Medford, OR.
Paul Beltis designed and built the Pool house in 2010 for the current owner when he enclosed this Olympic sized pool in glass, for all-season use. Beltis said, “The owner spared nothing in this palace, which took six people a year to build.”
